Case Study- Plymouth Argyle Vs Hartlepool
Case Study- After being told we was being sent to a Plymouth argyle Match we picked what we wanted to notate, I chose to notate chances created by Plymouth and in which area of the pitch, I did this by creating a 4x3 grid on top of a picture of a football pitch. When a chance happened live I put a P if it was pass, or a S (if it was straight off shot with no build up play) on the grid in relevance to where it happened live. I also put a number next to the notation so I knew what order the chances happened in.
Notating the Game live was Hard as it was difficult to distinguish weather it was a actual goal scoring chance or not and in the first minute there was a number of shots in quick succession which I later went on to find out I notated wrong as the pace and pressure of seeing it all got to me.
After getting the footage of the game we then coded the match using Gamebreaker, this gave us more reliable results as we did it a couple times with the added feature of rewind. Now with a correct set of results I began to properly analysis the results, I found that Plymouth didn't create enough chances only being 7 in total of the time zones I notated. 42% of chance resulted in a shot from inside the box, previous research told me that 82% of goals come from inside the box.
I began to try and see why Plymouth didn't get into the box enough and I found that this was manly down to two players, one being Jason Banton, Jason consistently passes the ball back rather than forward even when there appeared to be space to get the ball in the box, this happened on 4 occasions. Another problem I found was that Plymouth players where reluctant to cross the ball in the first half even though they have a 6.3ft strong striker in the box that I likely to head goals.
